4th International CPT Seminar “Tunnels. From operation back to design”

The 4th International Seminar “Tunnels. From operation back to design” . From operation back to design” was held on the 4th and 5th of February, 2016, at the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering (LNEC).

It was co-organized by the Portuguese Commission of Tunnels and Underground Space (CPT) and by the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering, sponsored by ITA-AITES and national associations, and with BEFIPS partnership (Belgium, Spain, France, Italy and Switzerland).v Special support from the Southern Region Department of the Portuguese Order of Engineers was given. The number of participants exceeded 170 and the number of sponsors was 11. Biu International was the main sponsor of the event.

The event had 16 lecturers and 14 national or foreign speakers in the fields of Operation, Maintenance and Rehabilitation, and Planning, Design and Work. The eight sessions of the event were organized around these themes. In each session, two lectures and three communications related to the theme of the session were presented, being a lecture dedicated to one structuring topic of the session and the other based on illustrative work cases.

The Seminar speakers included members of the Executive Council of ITA-AITES, an organization in which Portugal is represented by SPG as a “member nation”. Namely the President of the Brazilian Tunnels Commission (CBT), Tarcísio Celestino, and the President of the Tunnels and Subterranean Spaces Commission of Chile, Alexandre Gomes.

It was also attended by the Presidents of CPT counterparts in Spain, Italy, France and Switzerland. The participation of these specialists greatly contributed to the quality of the event.
