CPGT

The The Portuguese Committee of Geotechnics for Transportation (CPGT) is a technical committee of the Portuguese Geotechnical Society (SPG), approved in November 2012 by the SPG Board, made up of members representing research and teaching institutions, as well as public and private institutions that interface with the Society:

  • To ensure, by delegation of SPG, the representation in Portugal of the ISSMGE TC 202, the development of activities associated with the terms of reference, and to enable the creation of working groups like those on the TC 202.
  • At a national level, promote the development of geotechnical knowledge in the field of transport infrastructure (roads, airports, railways and ports) and promote cooperation between entities interested in the subject of the CPGT.
  • At an international level, collaborate with related organizations.

To achieve these goals, the CPGT will:

  • Prepare technical documentation to support the activities related to the subject of the CPGT, in particular, specifications and recommendations for the use of new materials and technologies (constructing and monitoring), supporting the elaboration of new legislation to regulate the innovations in the fields of the CPGT.
  • Organize technical and scientific meetings at national and international levels, and field trips.
  • Compile and make available in its own portal information (only available) to its members, in aspects related to specifications, manuals of good practices in sizing, construction, conservation, exploration and safety, as well as specialized articles.
  • Organize actions to publicize the work of the CPGT as well as providing training.

GT1: PROMOTION OF THE USE OF MATERIALS

Goals

  • Analysis of the state of national and internacional knowledge on the design and application of C&D waste in landfills and structural layers (pavement beds).
  • Identification of works which use non-traditional materiais in landfills and on structural layers (pavement beds) – information on the design phases and the type of intervention (construction / conservation / rehabilitation).
  • Identification of the national availability of C$D waste – information on producing companies, production systems, type and volume of the main materials produced – by conducting an inquiry.
  • Publication of articles in scientific magazines and congress papers based on work developed within GT1.

Coordinator: Ana Cristina Freire (LNEC)

Deputy Coordinator: Eugénia Correia (IP)

GT2: REINFORCEMENT OF GEOMATERIALS IN PAVEMENTS AND RAILWAYS

Goals

  • Case studies on the use of reinforcement techniques in the rehabilitation of transport infrastructures (pavements and railways).
  • Promotion and dissemination of knowledge on reinforcement techniques in pavements and railways (geo-synthetics and treatment techniques).
  • Participation in the organization of technical-scientific events.

Coordinator: José Neves (IST)
