Cycle of Geotechnical Lectures “Thinking about the Environment”: 6th Lecture: Contaminated Land Management in Urban Operations

The Portuguese Environmental Geotechnical Commission (CPGA) of the Portuguese Geotechnical Society, with support from the National Civil Engineering Laboratory, invited Carlos Costa, from eGiamb – Consultoria Geoambiental, Lda, to deliver the 6th Lecture of the “Cycle of Geotechnical Lectures to Thinking about the Environment “, with the title Contaminated Land Management in Urban Operations..

The event took place on June 26, 2019, at 4:00 pm, in the Small Auditorium of the LNEC Congress Center, in Lisbon, and was attended by the SPG General Secretary, Ana Vieira, the President of CPGA, António José Roque, and the Secretary General of CPGA, Celeste Jorge, at the Opening and Closing Sessions.

The lecture addressed the problems that result from the fact that the European Union does not have a Common Soil Protection Strategy and that the provisions in Portugal concerning soils are dispersed across various legal regimes, making it difficult and limiting its application. The lecture also presented some case studies and approaches to potentially contaminated sites in urban operations.

Around 50 participants were present, who during the debate were able to exchange views with the speaker.
