Resumo:

This study presents the results of measurements performed during SPTs conducted with a mechanized system as part of the soil investigation for Paranaguá harbor, in Paraná state, Brazil. The energy delivered to the rod stem was measured in ninety-two blows. Additionally, the hammer and rod displacements were independently measured in thirty-one of these blows, which allowed the quantification of all energy losses, from the hammer release to the rod stem just below the anvil. The results showed that, for the particular equipment used, secondary impacts within the same blow have less influence on the energy transferred to the rod stem. This resulted in the energy ratio varying with depth, unlike in significant previous experience, where it was found to be constant.
